Problem with ATM Withdrawals
Another problem from a consumer using ATMs
I wish to bring to your notice a serious issue with ATM transactions (in particular ICICI).
I used my HDFC Debit Card to withdraw Rs6000 from an ICICI bank ATM located in Hyderabad. After punching in my PIN and the amount to withdraw, the ATM worked on for a while and finally the Transaction was declined. I was stunned later to find that my account was debited with Rs6000 even when the cash was not dispensed. I raised a dispute with HDFC bank to co-ordinate with ICICI and solve the issue. The transaction slip was also attached, which shows clearly that "Transaction Declined". My problems increased, when an HDFC employee called and told me the issue will take 35-40 working days to be resolved. I was bluntly told that my card was a MasterCard and that it will take 40 days, and no further explanation was given why it will take 40 days.
I consider this as a complete lack of empathy to the customer and his problems. Who is to blame ICICI or HDFC?. I don't know whom to approach to complain about this issue.
We are at an age of sophisticated machinery and hi-tech and yet a simple audit of the particular ATM machine balance on that date is supposed to take 40 working days, even when all the details like Transaction slip copy, Date of transaction, time, amount etc details were given.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions to solve this issue or at least other means to make people aware of such problems.

In Singapore, it happened to me once on a local bank's ATM, got the problem solved the next day and the money came back in 3 days :). I think Indian companies should implement technology into their own business they way they do implment for the customers overseas.

I have experienced similar situation.
I used my ICICI card to withdraw money from Bank Of Baroda ATM.
The ATM machine said transaction declined but the amount (Rs 5000) was debited from my account.
ICICI bank said it will take 60 days for resolving this since it is a non ICICI bank.
Hope i get my money back. Its already 20 days.....

Raviraj

I am the General Manager of an engineering firm in Bangalore. I googled today to find out if there are individuals who had problems with ICICI ATM cash withdrawal. I ended up with a link to this blog.
I must share my terrible experience here. On 9th of AUgust 2007, I used my ICICI ATM card at HRBR branch, Bangalore. I punched in a request for Rs.3,000 and to my horror I received only Rs.1,000/-. From that day onwards till date I am following up with ICICI phone banking and also through mail correspondence with customer support department. I received a reply saying that as per the banks record they found the transaction is complete and the money is paid in full. I just can't take this answer and intend to pursue this furhter. I appreciate if any of you can give me any clue what so ever on where and to whom such complaints can be escalated to in the bank. Should I write to the chairman of the bank himself directly ? Appreciate a quick reply

I got the money back exactly on the 60th day.
May be very lucky this time..
You can approach the manager first, even if that doesnt work then take next step.

Today I went to HSBC ATM to withdraw money from my savings bank account. As usual, PP TOWERS PITAMPURA DELHI HSBC ATM was not working(HSBC have got only 6 or 7 ATMs in DELHI). So I went to wothdraw money from nearby SBI ATM (as my debit card is VISA). When I gave the withdrawal request of Rs 15000, money came out but got stuck in the machine. I tried to pull it out but could not. I looked for SBI ATM gaurd but could not find him. The money went back into the machine. The withdrawal slip showed Rs 15,000 debited from account and later I checked my ccount on internet it showe Rs 15,000 debited from my account. I have contacted both the banks and they have given me their complaint numbers. If anybody who have faced similar issue can give me some useful information based on his experience, it will be very kindof him.
Thanks

I wen to an SBI ATM to withdraw cash 4000 Rs from my HSBC debit card. The cash got stuck in the machine, though the transaction receipt shows 4000 as withdrawn.
Got a response that it will take 45 working days for the complaint to process.
And have been asked to send a letter to "Charge Back, Section" in chennai.

I have similar problem.I used my ICICI debit card at OBC bank ATM and it Show an error message "TimeOut- Please collect your card" and debited my account 15K without giving me cash.
I filled a complaint with ICICI bank but yet to hear from them.
I approached OBC bank also ,they checked and said "Yeah... We see there was an error and its recorded,Ask ICICI bank to process the Reversal request"
From above posts looks it will take 60 days but I was hoping it can be done before diwali so I can go shopping....
These OBC/ICICI bank people are trying to make my Diwali not so good...

You can find their operations are almost cheating.

I faced similar situation.
I gave elaborated description to explain each situation I faced while registering my complaint.
I used my ICICI debit card to withdraw money from HDFC Bank ATM on 11/12/2007 at 6.20pm. The machine took 5 minutes to pick my debit card and it prompted for pin number. I entered pin, selected withdrawal and entered 1000 rupees. After entering it prompted warning message 'Service temporarily unavailable. Sorry!' and my card came out of the machine. I didn't get any receipt from the machine. I received a message on my mobile from ICICI bank saying that 'Your account xxxxxx123xxx is debited INR 1,000.00 on Dec. ...'.
On the same day I tried on mobile banking to register my complaint twice or thrice. But there is no option to register complaints on phone banking and no person responded.
At 7.00pm I went one of nearest ICICI bank branch and tried to complain to the Bank Manager.
I registered for token service to complain. When my token number turn came I went to the concerned executive. He was not helpful/aware to take necessary steps and recommended to meet Branch Manager.
I saw towards Manager's chamber. He is busy in discussing with other customers. I decided not to disturb. I waited 10min but still running the discusions. I lost my patience and opened the chamber entry door. The customer inside was one of my old friend arguing with manager about the bad service of the bank executives. I tried to give my complaint after their argument over. The Manager was so reluctant to take my complaintand told I am busy Please wait!. and acted that he was busy looking onto LCD Display of his desktop.
I waited 15 minutes, there was no response from the Manager. I observed a phone on the desk outside his chamber. I picked it dialled to phone banking. I tried thrice to get response from the person. She registerd my complaint. I got complaint number on my mobile. She told that it will take 8 working days to solve the issue.
Now I am also trying to complain HDFC Bank( It is far away from my location. If time permits I will complain) about the issue.
The bad Services I got
----------------------
1. HDFC ATM is in bad working condition(It waisted my time)
2. I didn't get my money although it was debited.(same check-bounce I think so)
3. I didn't receive receipt(HDFC ATM fault)
4. Bad service on ICICI phone banking.(waisted time & money)
5. Bad service at ICICI bank.(waisted my time )
Let me wait to get my account be credited Rs. 1000.00

Friends I recived back my money on 9th Jan 2008. It was that unfortunate day of 3rd NOV 2007 when Rs 15,000 got stuck in SBI ATM using my HSBC debit card. HSBC asked for a time frame of 45 working days to resolve this issue with SBI. Actually track should be kept about the investigation of the issue. Banks never care about our money. Until and unless you are not going to call them regularly to know the status of the investigation they are interested in it.

Money withdrawl from Karnataka Bank from ICICI Debit card
I tried to withdraw Rs 15000/- from Karnataka Bank in Chikmagalur on 15/12/2007. In the middle of the transaction, Power went off and there were No backup support and could not withdraw the money.
Even though, i haven't received the amount and I received the SMS to my Mob No that, I have withdrawn the money. When i contacted ICICI Bank, they said with in 3 hours amount will be reversed OR Else they will lodge the complaint.
As this was not revered, I have raised a compliant and they have given the No 4846914 and they said, it will be done in 8 working days. After some days, i received a SMS that, i have to wait 45 days from 21/12/2008.
Its very strange that, without my fault i have to wait for 45days to get my Money back.Iam really worried the way ICICI Behaves, when ever i call its in the process. Iam wondering, why they need somuch of time. Tell me is any other way to lodge a compliant to consumer court if my dues are not paid with in the period.

Hello friends.,
Even i also faced the same problem while accessing ICICI bank ATM in coimbatore.
Today i am going to meet the bank manager. And if i get the amount in 2 to 3 days i will continue in this bank. Other wise simply i will close my account in this bank. from the above feedbacks i came to know anyhow they will not return the amount within 7day or even one month. Then whats the need of holding account in this bank.Even though we are using a hi fi technology still we are facing problems. This means problem is not there in the bank peoples. Mistake is in our side. We should choose the proper bank. Now a days i dont know who will provide a better service than this..
Please write a mail to my id..I am especting your valuble feedbacks..

I had withdrawan Rs 400 from Bank of Baroda using ICICI ATM card. It was shown : Unsucessful transaction . But money is debited from a/c . I lodged complain with ICICI .More than 2 months passed . Nothing happened . If any concern person is reading all these comments they must do some action on irresponsible banks.
