Miguel de Icaza the man behind mono and countless other Linux stuff(GNOME, Evolution etc) has a blog entry on .NET vs Java. He talks about development speed and other things that may affect a decision in favour of one of these.
One of my fellow MVPs Nauzad, sent the following mail. I think this is a very valid question. Any comments??
If java is indeed so great, and truly "cross-platform", then how come none of the mass-market, high use softwares are written in java ??? One would think that yahoo would prefer to write its messanger ONLY in java so that they don't have to release different versions for different OSes.... and that logic should follow suit for products like winamp, icq, Eudora, Napster, ACDSee, Xing, Winamp, Sonique etc.
I just got a mail from a fellow MVP. One of his friends were in the process of deciding whether they need to use .NET or Java. His set of questions were so like the ones that I answer normally, that I thought I would blog it here....
